Save the Child
Nicolina had once again ruined her parents' fun. Katanya emerged from the
bedroom in her cotton shirt and Met's orc hide pants. Nicky was sitting up in
her bed, shivering and teary eyed. Katanya wrapped Nicolina in a blanket and
held her close as she comforted her. Nicolina had once again had another bad
nightmare.
Katanya sat with Nicolina for hours. This latest nightmare had left Nicolina
so shaken that Katanya forgot how angry she had been about having to leave
Metallicus to come out to her. Nicky told her mother about the dreams she had
been having, visions of a coming war. Finally Katanya calmed Nicky down enough
to allow her to sleep.
By the time Kat returned to her own bedroom, after she gave Nicky Met's
wurmslayer to sleep with, Metallicus had already fallen asleep. Kat got
undressed, climbed into bed, but she could not fall asleep. She tried to think
of somewhere safe for Nicky to go. She thought about Qeynos or High Hold Keep,
but Kat knew her connections there weren't strong enough. She had to find
somewhere...
Sleep was difficult for Katanya that night. She was worried about Nicolina,
and wanted her to be safe. Katanya got up early that morning, got cleaned up and
dressed, left some food for Nicky and Met and ran off to make some arrangements.
Katanya ran to the bank to get some money, and then set out to find a druid.
It took her about an hour to find someone to help her with a teleport to North
Karana, which she had expected at this time of morning. By the time she started
running toward West Karana the sun was beginning to rise above the horizon.
Katanya found a pride of highland lions before crossing into West Karana, and
she stopped to ask them to help her. Katanya told her friend's about her
daughter's visions, and that she needed their help to get her to safety. Always
glad to help those with feline blood, the lions vowed to help Nicolina and a few
set off to pass the word through the Karanas.
Katanya set out for Surefall Glade, she knew that Nicolina would be safe
there. After a couple of hours Kat arrived in Surefall, and she talked to
members of both the druid and ranger guilds. Both guilds agreed to help protect
Nicolina and train her during her stay there.
It was late morning when Katanya began her search for another teleport.
Luckily it didn't take her long to find a friendly druid to take her to West
Commonlands. Kat still had a few more arrangements to make. As she ran back
towards her home in North Freeport, Katanya stopped to talk to the pumas in the
Commonlands. She made the same agreement with them that she had made with the
lions of the Karanas.
Katanya knew Metallicus would ask questions when she returned home, so she
hoped he had seen the note she left with their food. Kat had asked Met to take
Nicolina to Northern Ro for the day to let her play and fight. Luckily when
Katanya returned home they were still gone. Katanya quickly packed up some of
Nicolina's things, and put an extra stack of food and water in one of her
backpacks. Knowing her two warriors would return soon, Katanya began to cook
dinner.
Metallicus and Nicolina returned home as Katanya was beginning to set the
food on the table. Metallicus went to give Katanya a kiss, but he noticed the
clay on her boots. Before he was able to speak, Katanya sent Nicolina to get
cleaned up for dinner.
"Where have you been all day?" Metallicus said with a concerned yet
suspicious tone.
"I made arrangements for Nicky to go stay in Surefall for a while," Katanya
told Metallicus.
Metallicus laughed. "She annoyed you that much last night?"
"I just want her to be safe. Those nightmares have me worried," Katanya said
as she sat a bottle of mead next to Metallicus' plate. "And I can't help it if
I'm in heat," Katanya continued while reaching down to rub between Met's legs.
Met giggled and pulled Kat close to give her a kiss. Kat smiled at Met and
finished setting the table before Nicolina returned and the family sat down for
dinner. At dinner Katanya told Nicolina what was going to happen the next day,
and how she wanted her to be careful.
It had been a long day, so Katanya rushed through cleaning up the dinner
table with Met's help. They sent Nicolina upstairs to play with the new dagger
her father had given her.
"Are you sure you want to do this hun?" Met questioned.
"You know there is a war coming, and I'll feel safer with her away from
here," Katanya answered.
"What about Kith? She can't go through there alone. And she'll never make it
at night."
It was obvious Metallicus was worried about Nicolina, after all, she was
daddy's little girl. "I sent word to Dresgon that Nicky would need her help.
She's been hanging around the pass. She can get Nicky through Kith and get her a
room in the pass or keep for the night."
Katanya hugged Metallicus. She could sense how much all of this worried him.
They put away the dishes, and headed upstairs to put Nicky to bed. After
wrestling around a bit, Met finally put Nicky in her bed and covered her up.
Kissing their daughter goodnight, Met and Kat went into their bedroom. They both
got undressed and crawled into bed. Katanya snuggled up to Metallicus.
"She'll be okay baby," Kat said trying to comfort her husband.
"I know hun," Met said as he kissed Katanya on the forehead.
Katanya squeezed Metallicus tightly and gave him a kiss. "Everything will
work out baby, and just think, you'll have me all to yourself soon." Katanya
smiled at Metallicus before giving him another kiss and trying to fall asleep
after her long day.
